WOYWW 619

Hi hi!

Welcome to this week’s What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday, which this week is called WHW – that’s Won Handed Wednesday (I know, but WHW is better than OHW…) No, I can’t craft. Yes, I’m still sulking. I’m very vocal about my sulking when Mr Pretty has to help me get dressed. Thankfully I can still drive when I need to. But will you just LOOK at this uncreative desk…

Several diaries (yes, needed to start using those again), lots of Daddy paperwork – hospital appointments, operations (scary at his stage of life / health), banking, finally selling the car, overdue for his second jab, all hard to deal with when he lives 45 minutes away with no internet and we don’t have Power of Attorney (don’t even go there…). Profound deafness, the beginnings of dementia, and lots of ADHD in the family make life very… interesting…

So, with no crafting to cheer me, I set about planning a layout for a guest designer spot involving snow. Which led to this box being delivered. Plus two more on the way…

Oh yes. When I break a no-spend, I go hard. My last crafty spend was November! My defence – we don’t have much snow here on the south coast so I avoid snowy themed stash. But of course this year we did have some and I wanted to scrap it for this DT challenge. So I HAD to buy snowy items, didn’t I? Say yes, everybody.

I checked one shop but they had nothing suitable so I checked another – bingo! I decided I would add in another collection I’d been contemplating, to make it up to the free postage. But they only had half of what I needed, so I checked another shop, and had to add in another collection that will be perfect for our upcoming holiday. They still only had part of what I wanted from the actual snowy stuff. So I had to make up the postage with them too and then go to E-Bay to find the original collection pack I wanted, that actually comes free post and I needn’t have bought the other 2 boxes of stash at all. What can I say? I blame using my non-dominant hand – it knows not what it does… Or maybe the meds… The cognitive dissonance is strong in this one.

As a distraction – SQUIRREL! I offer you last week’s Throwback Thursday. This layout is about the picnic 2 days after the Twin Towers attacks where we decided to quit our jobs / take a career break and go travelling.

The photo is from a good few years after the actual picnic so I documented it as a ‘looking back’ story. I didn’t have any photos from the picnic itself apparently (pre-digital) & this pic was in the discard pile as I’d scrapped all the stories of that day – this makes a double win. I probably deserved my splurge this week after that…. if it were not for the fact that the layout was created in 2014… Ahem…

If you have any crafty confessions to make, or just a desk to share, please do link up with the lovely Julia from The Stamping Ground. There’s no judgement, no matter how many pairs of scissors / snacks / purchases on your desk. There might be jealousy. And enablement. But definitely no judgement.

In the meantime, stay safe and keep smiling x

Lovely layout and great new stash. I have my eye on that little fox tag! I am waiting for some new stuff to arrive, I think I am making positive inroads into using things up! Happy WOYWW and have a great week Angela #9

It’s hard for me to imagine how you can drive one handed! Hope you get to use both hands soon – I don’t think I could cope – I often think two are not enough! Loving your throw-back layout – did you really give up your jobs to go travelling? That’s very brave – I’m guessing that was before you had children. Luckily, I’m in a no-spend mood now – it comes and goes. I haven’t bought anything in months it seems – since Christmas really – or perhaps just a few essentials now I think about it. Sometimes we just need a little retail therapy, don’t we? Happy Wednesday! xx zsuzsa #24

I do hope you are able to craft again soon Lisa-Jane. Annoying about the stash and free postage but if you like the extras you purchased then it could be construed as a happy accident. Hope you manage to sort out everything you need to for your Dad. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

I just love the way you put down words on your blog, you should be an author really! I sympathise with your father woes, I had similar though fortunately we managed to wrangle a PoA out of him when my ma was still alive and she insisted. It makes life so much easier but I guess you know that….
Way hey for a stash splurge, I love the colours of what you’ve picked and look forward to when your hand means you can craft again. Everyone is presuming that I’m now going to start buying more paper craft stuff, I’m really not, am happy that the stamps I got last week will do for what I need them for!!
Will keep fingers crossed that we can meet up at some point for a socially distanced cuppa now you’re allowed to cross the border again (the password is Welsh Cake btw……)
    Hugs LLJ 5 xx

Hi, you can buy napkins on eBay or Amazon in smaller numbers, but I recently ordered quite a few from the above. Normally I buy packs when we are out somewhere new and have amassed a rather large selection because of course using up the packs takes a while. I usually give a pile to my daughter in law every now and then, and she is happy to have them. Which of course makes me feel good.

Oh My is that triple stash??? I haven’t got the bug again yet, been years really, seem to manage on what I already have. Hope the hand problem gets sorted soon, it’s a “right” pain and I only have carpal tunnel in mine. Thanks for the visit BJ#20

Love the layout and the new stash! It is hard looking after family as they get older and frailer. I hope you manage to cope with the ongoing challenges. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro x (#15)

To answer your question about the clocks, Lisa-Jane: It was a while ago when I printed them, so I couldn’t remember at first where they came from, but then I suddenly remembered that I had an A4 sheet of rice paper from Stamperia (this one here: https://daliartmarket.co.uk/products/new-stamperia-a4-decoupage-rice-paper-clocks) – I must have scanned it and reduced the size to fit on the ATCs. I often do this if I need a different size or if the original is just too precious to cut up!

Yes, everybody. Admirable use of the old one handed purchasing excise there Mrs Pretty! I feel for you, helping my Dad was so hard, I remember the first time I talked about Power of attorney (10 days after we’d dropped everything to go to Turkey to help with dementia Mum because he was in hospital with pneumonia and the hotel checked her out and he hadn’t told us he was ill, let alone in hospital). He accused me of trying to steal his money. It went downhill after that! Rest rest rest…the more you invest in nothing for that right hand, the better and faster you can come back from it. I know, I know.

such a pretty LO and collection of scrapping goodies. I am sure you will put them to good use. sorry to hear how difficult things can be for you while helping family and your own hand issues. Hopefully with time both will get sorted. keep creating and stay safe.

New stash always comes with a feel-good factor attached, doesn’t it! It sounds as if you need it – what a lot of family issues to deal with at the moment. I hope you manage it all OK. Also that your hand will soon be back in action – poor you!

Thank you for your visit and for your kind words about my health. I was pretty scared at the time because the last time I felt faint like that was when I was going down with sepsis due to a serious post-operative infection and I did wonder if I was going down the same route. Reassuring to know that despite the fact I’d never experienced it before, the migraine websites said that fainting could be associated with migraines. I’m making good progress on the kitty throw – I can’t tell you how much I’ve been enjoying doing this project! It’s a really fun one.

    Happy WOYWW,

You are doing well with your Dad-challenges from the sounds of it. You deserve to break your no-spend rule and get a bit of that stash-stroking in to make you feel better (one handed is better than not at all, right?)

As ever you scrapbook pages are wonderful to see!

I hope I am sensible enough to offer PoA when/if the time comes as i know what a difficulty it can cause. My sympathies go out to you, sounds as if you have need of a zillion hands nevermind just one.
Have you checked your insurance? Not sure you will be covered for one handed driving – just a thought.
It must be hard to not be able to craft at the moment, I would be demented and when my back is bad I just sit and colour little figures in ready for some future project. I cannot sit and watch tv without something to do.
Love the Picnic LO – did you really give your jobs upn to travel? I wish I had done that when I was younger – have done a fair bit but by no means what you did I can imagine.
You mentioned your daughter and ideas from my storage. On my wall there are boards and on them are stuck what I call cubby holes. These are from a certain Swedish company and are drawers. Single and double. Now imagine when you pull out the drawer part fully you are left with the casing. That casing makes some of the cubby holes but the drawer that has been taken out also makes a cubby hole. Double storage in one. Just thought I would mention it for your daughter.
    Hugs, Neet 4 xx

Happy Belated WOYWW. I am back to ‘normal’ after my COVID jab (which was the AZ one). Annoyingly, the pain in my left foot continues to worsen – and is really affecting my mobility. I am missing being able to go for long walks (and last year I was still doing a bit of very slow jogging). Cycling is ok, but does cause a Fibro flare afterwards, so I have to REALLY want to get out to make it worthwhile. I want to try swimming, but indoor pools are not open in Wales yet. Hopefully some time in May. Hope you are back to crafting soon. Ali x. #22

ooh yes think we all agree that new stash is a GOOD self care thing!
Sorry about your hand so frustrating but I find crafters are quite good at working out adaptions (that was my excuse to buy stash such as sugru so I could adapt openers, knives etc!!) and I bet its not easy trying to sort out stuff for your dad. However, on a positive, wild garlic!! You asked for recipes, the easiest on the Riverford website. I blitz a couple handfuls of leaves in a blender with about 2 tbs sea salt until blitzed, then add about 1 cup sea salt and pulse the blender just to mix it all. Then spread out on a baking tray and place in the lowest setting oven (or in the sun) for about 30 mins to dry out the salt. when dry (and probably a bit crusty) break up with fingers and store in a pot-keeps for well over a year and use when you need garlic and salt! Also I made dried powder, lay out leaves on the racks in the oven (not stalks) on lowest setting for about 1 hr with the door cracked open with a wooden spoon. When dry blitz to a powder with 1 tbs salt (to act as a bit of grit!).

Thanks for visiting my desk already
    Kyla
