WOYWW 611

It’s hard to know where to start today. I’m sure we’re all feeling the same as part of the WOYWW community – desperately wanting to hold hands across the country, and indeed the world, to say goodbye to Shaz Silverwolf. I’m sure that her soul is shouting at us all to get on with it, lets have at ya, show us your stuff, etc. She wasn’t your “conventional” crafter… I’ll come back to that, but here is my desk today. You can find more info with the lovely Julia.

I’m working on something super exciting, which involves, as these things often do, a bit of tediousness first. I’ve been die-cutting rolled flowers from scraps in colours that match my craft room and I’ll be fussy cutting those birds and butterflies to go with them. My glass candy dish is by far the best “sorting tray” type thing I have, no matter how many matchy matchy ones I have tried. Some are too holey, too shallow, too deep, too small, too big, etc. But this dish, like Goldilocks porridge, is just right.

You can also see the discarded wrist brace in the middle. Fybromyalgia has it’s own wardrobe, dontcha know…

So after my post the other week about trollies, a friend told me that she keeps her mixed media on hers. I thought what a good idea, I’m going to do that too. Sounds easy right? But it never is, is it? This was mid way through moving other things to make space to bring the trolley upstairs.

Teeter tottering piles and yet more foam shapes… I think I have enough for about 3 more years and then I might have to buy some proper stuff…

And then, ta da! This is them finished!

On the left is my project trolley which in all honesty will probably stay as my One Little Word trolley – the stadium style tidy at the top with all the papers, sticker sheets and album, sorting trays of scraps and loose stickers underneath, and then on the bottom, a box of Project Life cards with page protectors in the tray underneath.

On the right is my mixed media trolley. It’s far from all of it because I couldn’t use paints in my craft room when I had the die-cutting shop – too much white cardstock and a person with a lack of hand eye coordination! It’s a work in progress.

And here’s last week’s Throwback Thursday. Goodness I’m missing the beach in Wales so very much.

Of course we will be all be missing Shaz on our Wednesday trip around the desks now too. I met her a couple of times (and her absolute soul mate and husband, Doug) at the Burbage crops for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday. I have one of her ATCs on my wall from the November 2015 crop just after she’d had one of her earliest surgeries. She couldn’t sit for long and would take gentle walks around the building, but she created quite the shadow! With her long skirts and long hair she appeared to float past as if she was flying, especially as she was wearing a witches hat at the time! Rest in peace is too sedate for this fan of wolves, black clothes, coloured hair and heavy metal, so I’ll say ‘howl loud Shaz lovely lady, howl loud’.

What a lovely tribute to our friend Shaz, and yes you are right she would be telling us to get on with it. You certainly are getting on with sorting and organising, hope you can produce some great craft once it is all tidy.

I had forgotten the floating witch! How marvellous a memory, thinking she just might, possibly using a broomstick to move up and down that car park and past the windows at the Burbage hall. That has made me smile, thank you! The trollies look great, now you have to keep them that way! I’m thinking that mine is now so useful that it might have to learn to sit nicely in the car and come to crop with me! Love the colours you’ve got going on at your desk, but can’t for the life of me work out what you’re doing with that washi taped grid of mixed papers. I will be a grown up and wait. The badge thing…..at your service if you want some, painless or pinned, just send me the paper/printouts and I’ll do it. Of course, at some point, I’d like to be able to bring it to a crop. Oh and the coffee cup on my desk….don’t stress…blogger has cut it off, it’s just right of the badge bag! Laugh!!!

  6. Julia on 17 February 2021 at 8:50 am

Badges….i mean PINless or Pinned, not painless…argh.

I read your memories with such interest, something I never knew about with Shaz. Thanks for news from the early days when I didn’t go to the crops. What a lovely way you have with words, I so enjoyed your read this morning and `I so agree with you, she would be more likely to be ‘howling’ for us to get on with things.
Great trolley shots, where did you get the long basket to hang on the side please?
    Hugs, Neet 17 xx

Lovely photo of Shaz and Doug, and what a lovely tribute. A bit of a surprise to see myself in there, and I have as big a smile now as I did then, seeing Shaz in her witchy attire.

Looking forward to seeing your mystery project. Unlike Julia I am impatient and stamping my foot, demanding more NOW. 🙂

Hugs to all on a sad WOYWW day.

Absolutely spot on L-J, you nailed that tribute to Shaz. I’, just going to join in with the he howl – Awwwoooooooooooooooooo. I can see hear grinning right now! Things always get worse before they get better when sorting, whatever it is, but wow was it worth it. Those trollies are a thing of beauty now and you can see where everything is. Makes my heart happy!

Lovely to see a photo from 2015! I first joined in September 2014 – and then had a little hiatus in 2015 when I stopped creating and blogging for 6 months – probably around the time this photo was taken. Nice to look back on these memories of Shaz! I have two of those carts as well – and I would have loved to get the turquoise ones, but ended up with a mismatched cream one and and a black one, as the turquoise was never available. Works the same way though. Hope you’re well. xx zsuzsa #31

PS. The layout looks super with all that red to match your daughter’s swimsuit and the glass trays look ideal for sorting stuff!

A lovely tribute to Shaz . Seems forever since I was on a beach, happy days! well done sorting your trolley out. Angela x 21

  16. Felicia on 17 February 2021 at 3:24 pm

Lisa-Jane, I LOVE what you did with your trolleys!! Perfect that each has its own “theme” if you will. I only have one trolley and now you have gotten me thinking about another for the same reason!! Uh oh, maybe you’ve taken on some Shaz traits!!! Such sweet thoughts about her and I love the photo and your whimsical thoughts about her walking and the witch’s hat!! She was so unique in her own right and I think that is what made her so inviting! Thank you for sharing and here’s to blessings for the rest of your week! Felicia #34

I haven’t grabbed my trolleys backyet . (one is in the airing cupboard, the other in the living room, pretending to be a lamp table.) love the photo with Shaz wearing her witches hat. Stay Safe, keep crafting! WOYWW? ((Lyn)) #13

Thought I would have recognised the wrist brace as I’ve been wearing mine at night to help stem the pins and needles. Mine is NHS beige and I cover with a black pop sock as the velcro is too scratchy for night time. Really like yours in bright PINK.

Great trolley sorting and super LO, wondering which beach in Wales now???

I have not been a part of the group for very long, but I always thought Shaz was so interesting. I took time to look back through a few of her posts, and the word I most associate with her is free.

    Thanks for sharing more memories!

Hi Lisa-Jane, thanks for sharing the story and photo of Shaz. It’s great to read so many different stories, and see such lovely photos of a great lady who will be sorely missed. I keep eyeing up those trolleys, and keep resisting. When I revamped my craft room, I was advised my craft stash would expand to fit the space. If I buy some trolleys I will buy more stash – and I definitely don’t need anymore stash lol. Take care, hugs Heather xx #19

  21. Lindart on 17 February 2021 at 9:35 pm

What a lovely picture of Shaz in her witches hat! I wish I had met her, I know she would have been a lot of fun, I did live a bit vicariously through her as she and Doug went to the Heavy Metal concerts and Steampunck festivals!
Your organization looks awesome – so many wonderful things in those two trolleys!
Your special project sounds intriguing, I look forward to seeing it finished! Have a great week, Lindart #35

  22. Angela Radford on 17 February 2021 at 10:05 pm

I started off okay today with the visits, walked dogs and went into the cabin and now I don’t know where the time went to! Shaz will never have really left us because her blog will keep her alive for us and I can tell you it wont be the last time I pop over there for some ideas when I get stuck, God Bless her. Loving the trolleys they are so good for organising all kinds of things. Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela,x18x

    Howl loud indeed!

Look forward to seeing whatever you are making. The throwback LO is lovely – I am pleased to say we have been let out a little. As it was 32 degrees we headed for the beach but made a hasty retreat as there were too many people!

Hi Lisa-Jane, you’ve asked me about my teabags. I don’t have any videos of my own but there are loads of them YT. There are so many things you can do with tea bags – it’s worth exploring. You can stick them in journals or on scrapbook layouts, stitch them, use them in collages, make entire mini books out of them, etc. There’s no right or wrong way of using them either. Some people empty them unused, but I like brewing the tea first and then drying and emptying the bags to get that nice vintage stain on them. I’ve even seen people using them while they’re still full of tea! You can use them as single layer or double layer depending on your preference. Use round ones or square ones or the ones with the little tags, herbal tea or black tea, anything goes (although herbal teas sometimes change colour when they react to mediums) – all of them have their own unique properties. One thing that I would suggest though is that you seal them first if using as a substrate – I usually apply a couple of layers of clear gesso first – but then again some techniques might work better without it. I’m no expert by any means – I just make up the “rules” as I go along. Anything goes really – they’re like little mini canvases to create on or incorporate in your work. Have a go!

A lovely tribute to our beloved Shaz, Lisa-Jane. I made her a get-well card once, with the words “Never underestimate the healing power of listening to your favourite music on full blast while dancing around the house like an idiot” (Anon.) – suited her down to the ground, I thought! I am devastated that she has gone. I shall never, ever forget her kindness and support, and her departure has left a huge gap in our WOYWW family.

I love your pretty pink themed desk this week. I didn’t recognise what the pink thing in the middle of the desk was until you explained it – I thought it must be part of the project because of the glorious colour! I love your little glass dish for organising things. I’ve got a series of little plastic pots that had food in them, that I use for sorting things. We all have our favourite methods, don’t we. I love your trolleys, too – you are getting very organised! It all looks great. The room looks bright and airy and inviting.

Hope you are relatively pain-free today.

Thank you for your lovely comment. I’m glad to know you were another fan of EasyCross! I wish, wish, wish someone would bring it back… I’m so happy that my designs are inspiring you to pick up your needle again. Looking at them again made me feel sad that I’d come to the end of my “Tiny Carpets” project and I want to do more cross stitch again, too! I must finish my crochet and knitting projects first, though. I’m glad you liked the rainbow Shalom – that’s my favourite one, too.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
    Shoshi x #25
