WOYWW 576

Good morning deskers. Are you ready for your weekly snoop with Julia over at The Stamping Ground?

This is the aftermath of last night. We’ve been having a scrappy Zoom session one evening a week which we’ve now transferred to Rooms on Facebook (marvelous facility, like Zoom but free and you can come and go without needing to be let in, or have someone host and set up passwords etc). The bits at the front are going to be a new layout based on a sketch from a challenge from Saturday’s cyber crop. I need to use a craft knife and so that’s where I stopped last night – no way I was going to use a tool like that so late in the evening! The blue box is full of Bramble Fox Perspextives like Julia mentioned last week and they appear on may of my layouts now. The layout at the back was one I found wedged in between the papers I have in this collection… I’ve used the photos on another layout since then… This is definitely one of the things I want to get organised during my sabbatical…

I’ve come to cherish my Wednesday desk share and I hope I can continue to keep up with it. It gives me a creative anchor in the week, and strangely gives me a mental nudge to keep up the crafting. As some of you know, I was needing to put my “big girl pants on” regarding a fairly big decision and I did just that. I had already decided on the Monday to close the cut file business for 6 months and I had spoken to my lovely DT and the tech people etc but actually putting it on the website and social media felt like stepping off a cliff. I’ve had so many health issues for such a long time, that all feed into each other, and I was becoming at risk of being found wandering the streets in my nightie and being escorted home by a police officer. Most of the time I do a fairly good job in hiding my mental health issues (I think) but that itself comes at a cost and now I need to focus on getting well, properly well, and finding out what works for me treatment wise. I’m about to start some new medication which might knock me out for a bit while I adjust and I’m doing a lot of reading and research, which takes up a lot of time. Luckily, one of the most beneficial things I can do, is to create, so you don’t get rid of me that easily!

We should have had one of our local crops on Saturday so we set up a Room for our normal table on ). It ended up just being me and the lady who runs the crop who wasn’t feeling the crafty love but I was very grateful that she kept me company most of the day. I managed to finish the creative part of my Journal Your Christmas 2019 so I was very pleased with that! I just need to add the last 10 days of journalling and then create a cover when my special paper arrives. It sits on my kitchen table so I can grab a few minutes to finish the writing. It’s very odd writing about life 6 months ago when it really feels like a different world.

And finally, the rainbow layout! You might remember from last week that I got into a muddle with the layers of the shaker and the sequins and glitter were blending together a bit under the foam. Sadly it got worse every time I moved it so I had to start over as suspected but I’m glad I did as I really love the finished result. It will have it’s own blog post tomorrow.

Fancy joining me on a trip around the world craft desk by craft desk? There’s plenty of room and it’s easy to social distance 🙂

xx

Morning Lisa Jane. Great layout coming on there… and a hidden and re-discovered one!! Weyhey. More for the collection. You have indeed been making huge decisions – and I wish you well as you seek to recover. May God bless you in this time of His healing.
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

I’m glad you have come to a decision which is right for you Lisa-Jane. Your mental health is more important than anything else and I hope the new medication and treatments help. I haven’t tried FB rooms yet although we have used Zoom and FB messenger video calls for one to one crafting sessions together. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #8.

It takes a lot of courage to do what you did and for what it’s worth, I think you made absolutely the right decision. I really hope the new meds help – us humans are nothing if not a big old bag of chemicals and it doesn’t take much to make something off kilter. Lots of love to you girlie, hope the pressure off you helps.
I really really admire your ability to do a LO that’s all angles – I can’t do abstract or unsymmetrical at all, honestly I love the effect but all my work is straight lines….I just can’t do wonky!!

It’s hard to let go of something you’ve worked hard at but I have learnt over the years that sometimes the best thing you can do is just step away and sort yourself out. Easy to say but hard to do so well done for putting yourself first. Hope you are back on an even keel soon, and in my personal opinion, recognising you need to make the change is half the battle. Glad you find the weekly meets useful – it certainly gets my arse in gear some weeks (some weeks I’m in lala land and I forget all about but we’ll gloss over that). I’m intrigued by the FB Room, may have to investigate as I can’t see me getting back into a physical classroom this year and I either have to go virtual or just give up on my little business. Which wouldn’t be the end of the world. Happy WOYWW, stay safe, stay well, hugs Cindy #12

Sounds like you have made a brave but sensible decision. I haven’t investigated the “room” facility on FB I did wonder what it was all about. Have a good week and thanks for stopping by! Helen #2

Well done, Lisa-Jane. It takes courage to do what you have done, and face up to things sufficiently to make a radical decision and stick to it. I know what it can be like – you think you are letting people down and end up putting too much pressure on yourself, but at the end of the day you have to put yourself first and do what is right for you. In time you may pick up those threads again, or do something different. It also takes a lot of courage to admit to having mental health issues in the first place – despite our so-called enlightened age, there is still a great deal of stigma attached to it and it’s not an easy thing to be open about. I salute you.

Thank you for your lovely comment – so glad you like the latest knitting UFO! I’m making good progress on the new front band but my goodness there are soooo many stitches! It takes me over half an hour to do a single row! Fortunately there aren’t many rows so it should be finished soon. I never wear mohair (or wool) next to my skin as it’s far too itchy but over the cotton polo-necks that I wear in the winter, there’s no problem with it. Knitting mohair in the summer is pretty hot work though!!

I am very thrilled with my pantry. We used to have an old fashioned cupboard which was an absolute pain in use, with very deep shelves and things constantly getting lost at the back etc. Then we discovered dry rot under the floor and the whole thing had to come out, and I got a carpenter to make the walk-in pantry of my dreams in its place! I blogged about it in my old blog (now defunct) but not sure if he photos are visible or not – Blogger managed to erase all my photos at a single stroke and I really couldn’t face replacing them all, especially as people were still reporting they couldn’t see them. WordPress is better! I might to a revamp post about the development of the pantry on my new blog… Your loo-to-pantry conversion sounds awesome! I bet you missed that when you moved house. Pantries do work a lot better than normal kitchen cupboards, don’t they.

    Happy WOYWW,

Hi Lisa Jane, well done to you for putting your mental health first, thats a very brave decision , too often the ‘right’ thing is not the easy thing to do. I really hope the new meds make a big difference for you, I know med adjustments/changes can take some time to have the desired effect, so we will all be rooting for you, and of course we are all always here for you. Even if you just post a bare desk, and a line saying hi, we’ll still pop in for a chat! Looking forward to how you sorted the card out. Stay safe, Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #16 X

Hi Lisa Jane, here I am on catch-up again! We’ve had a busy week with my mum and I’d had enough yesterday so I’m finishing off my visits today. Loving your journaling pages, great work . Have a Lovely week and a happy belated woyww, Angela x20x

I’m really late, sorry. Full of admiration for your decision….take the time, try the meds, give them time and regenerate. Being spread too thin for too long is untenable, and ends in breakdown situations. I’ve scrapped the same photos a few times now, but the LOs are so different that I’ve left them in album, I think at some point I might put them together for the reader to compare and try to understand how mood affects what you do with paper and glue! Super impressed that you’ve finished the album, I know what you mean about the journaling, it’s like being a narrator to someone else’s story isn’t it! Glad that you think you may continue WOYWW, but it’s all flexible Missus, we’re here for you. Xxxxxx
