The monthly challenge for November over at UK Scrap Addicts is all about masculine layouts.
I actually created this layout for a previous challenge to use mixed media and then I never used it but it was perfect for this challenge too. I used a mis-cut file (hidden by clever placement of the stars on the “U”) and popped the photo behind the star / “a”. I took so many photos on this particular day and I wanted to use all of them because they were all so perfect, but there’s a limit to the stories you can include. I did journal a lot on previous layouts about how I had suddenly noticed how grown up my boy had become around this time and in particular when I looked through the photos on my camera the following day. Using a cut file like this means I don’t have to say anything deep and meaningful and the photo still goes in my album.
I used the awesome Cocoa Vanilla Boys Rule collection for this layout and I Loved it so much that I bought both the 12×12 pack and the 6×8 paper pad. The smaller formats are brilliant for backing cut files and you don’t hyperventilate when you cut into them. I relly wanted the cut file to stand out so this dark grey background was perfect. I used a stencil and some texture paste to create the stars to give the background a bit of interest too and I love the effect it gives.
You might notice the splodges of green paint on the edges of my layout – I had tried to do some mixed media with paint on the back of this layout but it didn’t go well so I turned it over not realising I had swiped the paper in the overspill!
If you’ve been inspired to create a masculine layout, please do share them on the UKSA Facebook group so others can get some ideas too.
