How exciting! This is our first project from our Design Team and to celebrate our birthday month. We are starting with the wonderful Laura Rumble – over to you lovely!
Hi Folks, Laura here with my first DT project. I’ve had an urge to make a Traveller’s Notebook for a while but one with a twist. I fancied odd pages, different shapes and textures – a bit like a junk journal but TN size.
Most of all I wanted some see through layers so I could have parts of pages peeking through. Step up the Doodled Rainbow Mesh cut file. The 12×12 pre-cut file was too big but I just trimmed it down to size. The piece that was cut off will make it on to a layout fairly soon I’m sure!
A few of the other pages are pieces from one of the Layering Packs which are coming soon to the shop. This pack includes dictionary pages, sheet music, doilies and glassine bags along with some real treasures like old collecting cards and postcards.

I’m so happy to be back scrapping! It’s only in short bursts (because my leg swells up if it’s not kept elevated) and I’m at my dining table rather than my studio, but it’s a start! I sat with my girl who was busy scrapping too, and we got started with the Summer Fiesta at For The Love Of Pretty Paper on Facebook. The first challenge was Pre-Party Cocktails and we were given a few images and recipes of cocktails and mocktails to use as our inspiration. I immediately printed off a photo of some amazing mocktails that we had at Tom Kerridge’s restaurant The Hand and Flowers and broke open my box of new stash that was to hand (from the Lottie Loves Paper sale). These papers from Pink Fresh Studio were perfect for the colours in the photo and I pulled out the first piece of paper from the pack (the paper pieced background) and started with that
I took inspiration from one of the prompts in Shimelle’s new layering class and created a messy stack using some papers from a 6×6 pad in another Pink Fresh collection. I wanted to create a decent sized journalling box for this one because I thought it was a good opportunity to also write about my decision to go alcohol-free back at the beginning of March. Mr PMP doesn’t drink much at all anyway and I wasn’t a big drinker but its hard to find something interesting and “grown up”, especially since the invasion of prosecco and eleventy billion varieties of gin. So I ended up with two journalling boxes – one for the tee-total story and one for the initial story about discovering Seedlip, the world’s first non-alcoholic spirits!
My title and all the puffy stickers, chipboard, die cuts etc are all from Pink Fresh but I’ve mixed up a couple of collections again. I find this is easier to do using one manufacturer because they tend to use variations of the same colour palette so there’s often a fair bit of cross over in colour even if the style and overall feel is different.
I added some of the new matt finish enamel dots (coming soon to the shop as soon as I can photograph them properly!) to bring a pop of green for the Garden cocktail but I might also go back in with gold Heidi Shine when I’m back in my studio.
I’m just so happy to be making again. It really is my therapy and has been needed in the past few weeks more than ever. In case you’ve missed it elsewhere, we’ve had 6 family members in hospital in 6 weeks (including me obviously) so it has been a very stressful time! At least now the children are home for the holidays I have someone to make me cups of tea… ah yes tea… that was the other thing I was missing. It’s no wonder I haven’t been coping very well!

I am so excited about this new phase of Pretty My Page! I absolutely love designing cut files and I have scribbles everywhere of ideas in the early stages. What I love even more though is seeing what other people do with my designs. When I’m designing I tend to see them in my head being used in a certain way and then one of my lovely customers will tag me to show me their layout and it will look totally different and totally awesome!
I really want to concentrate on the cut files and as well as providing the cutting service for people who don’t have a machine, I am in the process of uploading all the digital files ready to make downloadable versions available too – huzzah! (They won’t always be available in both versions because of how they are made and sometimes I purchase the commercial rights to designs that can only be used in a certain way, but most of the designs will be available in both formats.)
So things are really busy here despite me being stuck to the sofa with my leg in the air (and I can confirm that wearing a cast on your leg in this heat is rather hot and sticky), so it’s time to start looking for a design team! I’m looking for a number of talented crafters to use a selection of cut files in various ways so you MUST have a digital die-cutter to apply and MUST know how to use either Silhouette Cameo files or SVG files on your machine. The successful designers will be able to choose files from the store to use for their projects as well as using designs that I select, to produce several samples per month (depending on the style of project etc) along with their associated descriptions and promotion. Some designs in the month will need to be used in the way they are supplied in the pre-cut option and others can be used in whatever way the designer would like. In addition, there will be a starter package of physical products from the store as well as a generous discount for the duration of the DT term (which will initially be 6 months.)
If you think you’d like to be part of this growing UK company and you’ve got a talent for using cut-files in your projects then please do send an application to info@prettymypage.co.uk Please include at least 3 projects with good photography that showcase your beautiful work with cut files and include a brief description. The projects you choose should be examples of your current style and in the formats that you regularly use your cut files. Please also tell me where you get your inspiration and why you think you’d be a good fit for the team. I’ve seen some really amazing crafters on social media and like so many people, that’s where I go for inspiration so the successful applicants will need to have an active crafty social media presence. If you’ve got a Youtube account for your creativity then that’s even better. Please do provide links of your crafty on-line presence so I can see more of your gorgeous projects.
The closing date for applications is 10pm on Sunday 5th August so you have 4 full weeks to apply. September is our birthday month so I really hope to get the new team publicly announced at the beginning of September. How exciting!!??

At the beginning of June I was lucky enough to attend my first Go Go Getaway Retreat in Hertfordshire. My friend Sarah (from Lottie Loves Paper) and I signed up as soon as we heard that the lovely Shimelle was going to be there as a guest teacher to celebrate their 10th birthday, as she been a teacher at their very first retreat. I’m going to be making a mini book about the event when I can finally get back to scrapping after my Achilles surgery but for now I can share some of the layouts that we created there.
This one turned out to be one of my favourite layouts ever. It was the second of the two layouts we did with Shimelle and she’d suggested that we use photos that were 10 years apart to coincide with the celebrations. I chose the most recent picture of me and my girl on her 9th birthday and one from when she was only about 4 months old so it was close enough.
We used the Box Of Crayons collection for the whole weekend which at first I thought was a bit overkill but I ended up loving it! I hadn’t actually bought any of the collection myself even though I loved it when it released, because the patterns are so bold that I usually find things like this difficult to work with myself. I’ve ended up with some gorgeous colourful and bright layouts though and a commitment to using more colour and random motifs on my pages.
One of the parts of the lesson involved Shimelle coming around to each table to talk us through some brush lettering techniques and helping us create the focus word for our layouts. Then we practised for a while before choosing the best word to add to our layouts. I definitely want to do this again!
I wanted to keep to the blues and purples because of what we were wearing and there are so many colours in this collection that it was easy to achieve that.
I really love the way this layout turned out and I love what I learned. I would never have scrapped two photos from different life stages without this prompt but I’m glad I did. It reminded me of how close Miss B and I have always been and how much we have always held each other close, and of how we have always been “The Girls”.
