Laura Rumble – Hello 2019
Hello! Laura here today to share the front page for my 2019 album.
I started off with the stars stencil and some clear glitter modelling paste. This is probably my most used stencil as there never seems to be a layout that it doesn’t match. Once the paste was dry I added a touch of colour with a spray. I add a few spritzes of water to the outside to soften the edges. I left it to dry without blotting. This lets the extra ink nestle around the glitter paste and gives darker areas.
I’m not sure if my choice of colour was influenced by the Pantone colour of the year or whether it was a fluke. I’ve had conversations saying it doesn’t really make any difference to the scrappy world… maybe it does though?! I cut the 2019 file on white, added lots of little foam pads to the back and placed it on top just above the centre of the page. If you don’t have a cutting machine you can buy it as a pre cut file here.
I raided my silver glitter thickers to add ‘hello’ above and ‘let’s be friends’ below the cut file. Thickers are funny beasts and don’t always like to stick so I had in my mind that I would run the through the sewing machine to keep them in place.
I popped up two lines of journalling on foam just below the thickers. It reads, “Here’s to taking whatever the year throws at me with joy, patience and grace. Cheers!”
I then moved over to my sewing machine and went to town… zig zag stitch over the alphas and few loops around the design in straight stitch. I find when freehand stitching a circle going around a few times allows you to even things up if you go off course. Also, three wonky circles together look deliberate whereas one wobbly circle can look like a cockeyed mistake.
I pulled the thread end through from the back and tied the two ends in a bow. I love adding little details like this. You can see the process come together here.
With love and colour
